history of Tomball Farmers Market

In 2008, two young mothers read a book called "Profits From Your Backyard Herb Garden."  This book ignited them into thinking of other ways to grow and local produce food that would not only feed their families better, but could feed their communities and promote the local & organic food movement.

Driving to the existing farmers markets in downtown Houston with their kids in tow was not an option.  And since both of them had lived in Tomball for many years they wondered if anyone else in the area would be interested in a having a farmers market in their hometown. They knew Tomball still had large AGRARIAN AREAS within 150 miles of Tomball.

The moms advertised a grass roots meeting to see how the community would feel  about having a Truly local farmers market.  That first meeting at Tomball Bible Church brought three more board members. The first board members were Sarah Starnes, Tiffany Evans, Lane McCarty, April Zimmerman and Norman Thompson. and Tomball farmers market was born.

Dr. Rodney Hutson graciously agreed to allow us the use of his lot on the corner of Cherry St. & Main St. (FM 2920), across from TEAM Ministries For our JUNE 2008 MARKET'S DEBUT. TFM started With only six vendors and a successful tomato season to boot.  And by August 2008 the market went from being open only on the 2nd Saturday of the month to the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of the month.  And Our market grew to 10 vendors.

the market took a poll to ask our customers what they really wanted most from TFM. the results were more fresh local produce, local artisans & local foods.  as we continued to grow and after giving our growers two years of farming experience, in 2011, we decided to open our market every week during the busiest produce season.  Beginning in 2012 we became a year round, weekly market.

In 2014, we outgrew the grass lot and with the help of the city of tomball we moved 1 block east to the corner of Main St. and Walnut St.  we now can accommodate up to 60+ vendors. and we continue to provide a true local farmers market that is within walking distance to many unique shops & small business restaurants.  Tomball, tx is truly a hidden gem.

Thank you for your support as we continue to grow and improve each year.  Our market is committed to providing the finest quality local produce, cottage foods and artisan items that you can find anywhere. We also love our community and strive to offer a friendly, family oriented experience for all our customers and our community.
