Tomball Farmers Market, Truly Local Farmers Market

Until I started working for our farmers market years ago I never really gave much thought to wear my food came from and assumed all food was created equal.  Boy was I wrong! And now with supply issues across our country, recalls on food, GMO's in everything and our continued soil degradation it's so incredibly important to go back to eating what grows locally and supporting our local farmers in these efforts.

They work tirelessly and often have a thankless job.  They do it because they love the land. Tomball Farmers Market is fortunate enough to be able to provide our community with truly local  farm fresh produce, meats and canned goods that are in season. And we also get to bring our community truly local baked goods, prepared foods, drinks & snacks that are actually good for your body.

I have found that my husband and I eat smaller portions, eat healthier and even when I crave something sweet like macaroons from Indulge that sweet craving is more easily satisfied and I am not feeling hungry all the time or "waiting" for that next meal.  Your body just knows what to do with local, healthy food.  I am grateful that we have such wonderful talented farmers and producers at our market to choose from each week.

It's been a busy week and our weather certainly has been up and down this week.  Being a farmer isn't for the weak of heart.  Our farmers are dependent on the weather, soil, animals, growth etc... year round to bring local food to your table each week. And now more than ever with our ever changing food systems and big chain stores falling short on supplies buying local is important.

We are so grateful to be able to host such an amazing group of farmers, producers and artisans each weekend.

Last Weekend our lovely new Interim VC Social Representative Brooke I.  showcased Sweet Caledonia & Farmhouse Signs over on our artisan side of the market. Brooke is incredibly talented and is the owner of Beautiful Bliss.

Sweet Caledonia has been with us about a year and they make the most amazing Scottish tabby treats and other authentic Scottish sweets locally.

I can't remember when Farmhouse signs wasn't a part of our market.  They make cute yard signs and wood sign decor weekly and are truly talented.  Need a custom sign made? They can help you create something unique and are great gifts for any occasion. Make sure to bring cash as they do not take credit cards at this time.

Mother Nature sure has been busy on Saturdays the last 2 weekends and this weekend she is super extra bringing us a mega blast of cold!!

She won't stop our vendors though! We will be at the market with 70 bundled up vendors this weekend to serve you who've worked hard all week at their craft to bring you the freshest produce, baked goods, prepared foods, crafts and so much more all week.

We are continually in awe of how well our patrons come and support our vendors each weekend!

Atkinson Farms will be back this weekend!  Come stock up before the freeze hits and potentially harms all the hard work they put in working the soil.

We hope our Farmers crops and livestock don't suffer too much with the freeze we are getting. Livestock don't do well in these temperatures and our farmers work longer hours to keep their animals alive and healthy in these harsh conditions.

For our Produce Farmers it really slows down their growth or kills the plants altogether and then the farmers must replant. Being a farmer certainly isn't for the faint of heart. So they have been extra busy trying to protect the soil & harvesting what they can to bring you local fresh food that is just better for our nutrition.

Remember Rain Song Farm will be out the first 2 weeks in February so come grab your goodies early.

First Market of the NEw YEAR!!!  January 8th

I hope everyone had a great Holiday season and that you are getting back in the swing of things.  It was nice having time off but I definitely am ready for all things Tomball Farmers Market!

What are some of your favorite go to healthy meals and snacks to kick off 2022?

I have found that creating healthy meals for my family that they will actually eat can be a daunting task. My husband and I are working towards eating healthier and he's a really picky eater. And I don't think I am the only one who struggles getting my family on board with big changes like eating better.  It can be hard in our lives to focus on how we eat when we're juggling so many responsibilities at once.

So, we are considering creating a TFM Cookbook for the 2022 or 2023 year. WE would like to everyone to be included with healthy recipes with pictures from our vendors, Board Members and especially you our patrons. Is this something you all would be interested in us having for our market?

If you are interested we would love you hear from you! Please email us at tfmvendorcommittee@gmail.com. Please include vendors products in your ingredients list.
